A one-way closure comes into force tomorrow on a busy main road in Ellesmere Port town centre. Whitby Road, between the Enfield Road and Princes Road junctions heading towards the M53, will be shut for 13 weeks.

It's due to works taking place on new active travel routes to better connect Ellesmere Port railway station with the town centre as part of a major regeneration project. Whitby Road will be closed from Tuesday, January 20 until mid-April.

As part of the upcoming works, a cycle route will be introduced on Cromwell Road along with speed humps and signs for a new 20mph speed limit. A new roundabout will also be installed at the junction of Cromwell Road and Wellington Road North to provide a safer environment for cyclists using the road to get to the market, which is currently undergoing a major revamp.

The walking and wheeling route along Whitby Road will be made accessible with a new signalised pedestrian crossing at the Whitby Road/Cromwell Road junction, as well as improved side road crossings along Whitby Road. This includes re-aligning kerbs and providing new tactile paving and dropped kerbs at locations that have no facilities.

During the works there will be temporary road closures and traffic management in the following areas:
