This week Cheshire Live reported that Cheshire had a new addition to the esteemed Michelin Guide for Great Britain and Ireland. Boheme - based on Bridge Street in Chester city centre - has been included in the guide just three months after opening its doors to diners.

While Chester boasts the majority of Michelin Guide restaurants in the county, you can also find a couple more if you venture further afield. Here we look at the seven Cheshire restaurants currently in the guide and what it said about each of them:

Arkle, Chester

"The Grade II listed Chester Grosvenor Hotel has stood in the heart of the city since the 19C, and its newly renovated restaurant blends stylish, modern décor with the luxury and elegance for which the hotel is known. The tasting menu highlights the best of British produce, and the modern dishes are tasty and well-presented. Extend your evening in the chic cocktail lounge."

"Located in the very heart of Chester on one of the city’s famous 13th Century rows, this impressive establishment operates as a café and bakery in the mornings, then slowly morphs throughout the day into a full-blown restaurant for dinner. There are three dining areas to choose from, all with a smart brasserie-style feel to them. The menu spotlights prime British ingredients, like terrific Creedy Carver duck, in well-executed and satisfying dishes."

"It might offer over 150 wines – including organic and low-intervention choices – but this sweet, intimate establishment is more than just a wine bar. The daily menu is designed with sharing in mind and features Mediterranean-inspired dishes with some punchy flavours; these include whole fish, meats butchered in-house and creative vegetable options. The friendly team help keep the atmosphere relaxed and have a good knowledge of both the menu and the wine list."

Da Noi, Chester

"To say that your hosts at this little Italian restaurant are passionate would be an understatement. Chef-Owner Valentina Aviotti and her husband Fabrizio bring pride and personality to all that they do, with Valentina's Italian heritage coming across in a tasting menu of freshly made, authentic Italian cooking; the lasagne made using a recipe from Valentina's nonna is a delight. Wine flights are available and, pleasingly, the list is Italian-dominated."

La Popote, Marton

"A characterful converted barn with brick floors, exposed beams and linen cloths, which add a brasserie deluxe feel. The chef-owner spent several years working in Paris, and this is evident in the cooking, which incorporates classic French techniques while displaying a subtle modernity in its presentation. Service is friendly and assured."

"A family business has been run on this 17th Century premises for three generations. For many years it was a butcher's shop, the current incarnation of which now sits two doors down, and today Sommelier Vicki has taken on the mantle to run it as this sweet restaurant with her husband Richard. His dishes are founded on excellent quality ingredients, with the meat from the family butcher's unsurprisingly being a stand-out – like the supremely flavoursome Welsh Black beef. Low-ceilinged rooms and exposed beams add to the charm."

"Inspired by the steakhouses of New York, Upstairs at the Grill has a chic yet cosy atmosphere, courtesy of its mix of modern and retro elements. Prime quality steaks include porterhouse and bone-in fillet or rib-eye; the five-week dry-aged cuts are from premium Welsh beef, and various rare breeds are sourced from around the world."
