Air ambulance at shut Cheshire M6 after collision between pedestrian and car
The motorway has been shut
Police, paramedics and the air ambulance have been scrambled to the M6 following a 'serious collision' between a car and a pedestrian. And the northbound carriageway has been closed off following this morning's incident.
Now Cheshire Police has urged drivers to 'avoid the area' with the closure in place between junctions 19 and 20. The collision occurred just before 9am this morning (November 16) with police and North West Ambulance Service called in while the air ambulance landed in a field near the Junction 19 roundabout.
National Highways has warned of a 'protracted closure' with the carriageway expected to be shut for 'several hours'. Meanwhile the southbound carriageway is also shut at Junction 19 with motorists rejoining the carriageway via the exit and entry slip roads.
A spokesperson said: "The M6 in Cheshire is closed northbound between Junction 19 (Tabley, Knutsford) and Junction 20 (Lymm) due to a serious collision involving a car and pedestrian which occurred shortly before 9am this morning. The southbound carriageway is closed at Junction 19, traffic is being diverted via the exit and entry slip roads. This is known as an 'up and over' closure.
"Emergency services including Cheshire Police, the North West Ambulance Service attended. North West Air Ambulance landed in an adjacent field to J19 roundabout. National Highways Traffic Officers are also providing assistance with traffic management.
"Cheshire Police will be carrying out investigation work, therefore the closure is expected to be protracted and in place for several hours today."
A spokesperson for the force said: "Emergency services are currently at the scene of a collision on the M6 northbound between junction 19 and junction 20, near Knutsford. Delays are to be expected and motorists are advised to avoid the area."
