Biker suffers 'serious injuries' in Cheshire crash as road stays shut
Drivers told to 'avoid the area'
A biker has suffered 'serious injuries' following a crash which has left a busy South Cheshire A-road closed off. Emergency services had flooded Middlewich Road in Sandbach earlier this morning following reports of a smash between a car and a motorbike.
Now Cheshire Police has confirmed the biker involved in the collision, which occurred near the junction with Moorland Road, has been taken to hospital with what have been described as 'serious injuries'. And cops have urged motorists to 'avoid the area' as a stretch of Middlewich Road remains shut.
The alarm had been raised just before 6.25am. A spokesman for the constabulary said: "Officers attended and found there had been a collision between a white Mercedes A200 and a black motorcycle near to the junction of Moorland Road.
"The rider of the bike is believed to have sustained serious injuries and has been taken to hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured."
The closure is currently in place between Park Lane and Abbey Road with motorists urged to avoid the area. The spokesman added: "Officers remain in attendance at the scene and the A533 Middlewich Road is currently closed in both directions between Park Lane to Abbey Road.
"Local diversions are in place, but motorists are urged to avoid the area. Enquiries in relation to the collision are ongoing and anyone with any information or video footage which may aid the investigation is asked to contact Cheshire Police."
Witnesses should call 101 and IML-2277530.
