A Cheshire gastropub has shut for good following "a few bad months." Eagle and Spaceman in Warrington initially planned to close only for the month of January - but the team has now confirmed that the decision is permanent.

The American-themed gastropub opened on July 30, 2024 on Church Street. The business was a stand alone venture from Café at the End of the Universe, a food spot in Warrington Market that opened in 2020.

On December 3, Eagle and Spaceman shared a message on Instagram informing customers the venue would be closing for a month at the start of 2026. The statement said: "We have made the difficult decision to close for the month once Christmas is out of the way. After a good October we really struggled in November, of course we hope to have a good December, but we know what's round the corner."

Eagle and Spaceman called January "a nightmare for pubs" and promised to focus on its end of year service before the planned temporary closure, reports the ECHO. The venue added: "This isn't quite the end yet! For now we want to concentrate on making December the best it can be, and then we'll take January when it comes."

But an update on December 30 confirmed the gastropub's last day which ushered in a wave of support from customers on social media. After one person asked the venue to clarify whether the space would reopen in February as planned, the venue replied: "Unfortunately not."

They added: "That had been the plan originally but having had a bad few months the decision was made to unfortunately close indefinitely. Eagle and Spaceman suggested the business would continue operations as a delivery service. Customers issued their farewells to the gastropub on Facebook and Instagram, admitting they are "gutted."

One person said: "Absolutely gutted this is happening !!! Best place for wings by far. Loved doing a wings Wednesday with you guys. Hopefully a new location in town will pop up for you.

A second said: "Gutted for you! We've loved Wing Wednesdays and always love your food at the market. Wishing you all the best in your next venture." Another said: "Gutted. It was a great place with amazing food."
