Cheshire village charity shop to become pre-loved designer store
It opens this month
A charity shop in one of Cheshire's richest villages is getting a plush makeover. The revamp will see it become a pre-loved designer and premium high street store - and it opens later this month.
UK end of life charity, Marie Curie, has announced the plans for a new-look boutique which will open on London Road. Called Edition, it will open at 10am on Thursday 26 March.
The store will stock nearly-new clothing, footwear and accessories from a range of designer and premium high street brands. Alderley Edge is known on the charity shop circuit for the wealth of designer goods that can be snapped up at its existing charity shops, thanks to wealthy residents in the area donating their cast-offs, reports the MEN.
Profits raised from the rebranded shop will help Marie Curie to continue to provide expert end of life care for people with any illness they're likely to die from, and support for their family and friends via its hospices, community services and its free national Support Line, bosses say.
The store will be only the second of its kind in the UK, after the charity launched its first 'slow fashion' boutique in Chapel Allerton, Leeds in 2024. Marie Curie says it hopes that the local community in Cheshire's Golden Triangle will support its new venture, which has been created with "quality and sustainability in mind", they say.
Simon Meek, Retail Business Development Manager at Marie Curie, said: "We're incredibly excited to open our latest slow fashion boutique in Alderley Edge this month, following the success of our debut store in Leeds. We believe that there is a real appetite in Alderley Edge, and Cheshire more widely, for carefully considered and quality items, instead of increasingly disposable 'fast fashion' garments.
"We hope that edition will provide something a little bit different for customers looking to pick up a special item for a fraction of their full price, all whilst supporting a really important cause." Simon added: "In the run up to opening day, we're on the hunt for a Retail Manager with a passion for designer clothing and a number of creative volunteers who can help us get the store off to a flying start. We encourage those with retail experience and an interest in fashion to get in touch or call in for a chat.
"We've always had wonderful support from the local community over the years, so we're really looking forward to growing the team and we can't wait to welcome customers back through the doors of our new-look store next month."
Refreshments will be provided on opening day, and customers can benefit from a 10% discount offer from Thursday 26 – Sunday 29 March during the launch period.
