Chester city centre in UK 'top five' for pub crawls

New study scores city high for pub density and average pint prices

Chester city centre has been ranked fifth in the UK for a pub crawl, according to a new study. The city scored high for its pub density and average pint prices.

The study by BetWright placed Chester in the top five, with 6.66 pubs per square mile and an average pint price of £4.75. It states that "the city offers a mix of historic pubs, modern bars, and lively local venues, making it easy to hop from one stop to the next".

City of Westminster took top spot in the study with Bolton second, Liverpool third, and Wakefield in forth just above Chester. Wigan, Dudley, London, Rochdale and Stockport complete the top ten.

The study was based on data from the Office for National Statistics and Numbeo, comparing both pub density and average pint prices. Yarry Troshchey, spokesperson for BetWright, said: “Pub crawls have always been a brilliant way to socialise, they bring people together, spark conversations and create the kind of memories you don’t find anywhere else.

"What’s fascinating is how every city has its own character. A night out in Westminster is nothing like one in Wakefield or Chester, and that variety is part of the fun."

Back in April, we reported that a couple who are touring and reviewing the UK's boozers headed to Chester for another of their pub crawls. The Great British Pub Crawl - a project taken on by Nottingham natives Dale Harvey and Holly Booth - took in a whopping 38 new venues over two days during their trip to Chester.

"What a wonderful couple of days in the amazing city of Chester," they said on their Facebook page. "Thirty eight pubs ticked off in total so far but so many more to come back and visit still!"
