The Chester Grosvenor has moved a significant step closer to regaining its long-held Michelin Star after the hotel's new fine dining restaurant 'Arkle' was entered into the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland.

The venue, based at the city's popular five-star hotel and headed up by new executive chef Elliot Hill, launched back in March. The restaurant was previously known as ‘Simon Radley at The Chester Grosvenor’ but temporarily closed during the summer of 2021 for a £250,000 revamp and rebrand.

As a result of the closure, inspectors were unable to assess the offering at The Chester Grosvenor. This mean that then hotel -and Cheshire as a whole - was no longer home to a Michelin star restaurant for the first time in more than 30 years.

However, the Michelin inspectors have been out on the road over the summer and for September have added seven new venues to the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland. ahead of the yearly launch ceremony when the Michelin Stars, Bib Gourmands and Green Stars will be unveiled.

Unveiling Arkle as one of the seven additions, the Michelin Guide said: "While Simon Radley held a Michelin Star at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel for many years, 2022 marks a new chapter in its history, with Chester native Elliot Hill newly installed behind the stoves.

"The restaurant not only has a new name but also a new look, which blends modernity with the luxury and elegance for which this landmark spot is known.

"The tasting menu highlights the best seasonal British produce, be that Scottish lobster or Herdwick lamb from the Lake District, and dishes are tasty, modern and well-presented."

Speaking following the restaurant's launch earlier this year, Richard Grove, general manager of The Chester Grosvenor, said: "With the restaurant closed for a prolonged period, it simply wasn’t possible for the Michelin inspectors to assess our offering.

"With the Arkle now fully open and boasting a team that’s been immersed in our 30-year history of Michelin-standard fare, we are excited to be delivering the same exceptional standards of service and food for which we have always been known.

"It’s an exciting time at The Chester Grosvenor across our entire food offering, and we’re delighted to be back open and welcoming guests.”
