Chester pub plans outdoor revamp with new pergola and 'bar pod'
The venue wants to provide 'improved outdoor facilities' for customers
A Chester pub has unveiled plans to revamp its outdoor drinking area. The Piper, near Hoole, has submitted a planning application to Cheshire West and Chester Council for "improved outdoor facilities".
The proposed revamp features a pergola, bar pod, fencing and canopy. The design and access statement, submitted on the pub's behalf, states: "The pergola and bar pod will be located within the existing garden space adjoining the public house. The fencing will define boundaries and provide security while maintaining visibility and accessibility within the outdoor seating area.
"The removable canopy will provide seasonal shelter without permanent impact on the site layout. Circulation for customers and staff will remain functional and logical."
Two parking spaces will be lost to make way for the improved facilities. The proposal comprises:
- A new timber pergola with festoon lighting, timber cladding and bi-folding elements
- A new insulated timber-framed external bar pod to support outdoor service and customer convenience
- A timber picket fence to define seating areas.
- A close-boarded timber fence with gates to provide enclosure and privacy
- A removable tensile fabric canopy to provide seasonal weather protection
