Chester's historic City Walls daubed with graffiti
Police are hunting the culprits
Vandals have sprayed graffiti on a section of Chester's historic City Walls. Now police are appealing for witnesses and information over the vandalism.
Officers were alerted to the graffiti on Monday (March 9). An eye-witness reported seeing four women spraying paint on the section of the wall near to the Cathedral and Northgate, which includes the King Charles Tower, at around 4.33pm.
As part of their investigation, officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious to contact them. Police Constable Jono Lightfoot, of the Rural Crime Team, said: “The city walls are a Scheduled Monument and World Heritage site, this means it has very strict protections in law.
“Spraying paint like this on the historic fabric causes damage to the stone and It also costs a lot of money to remove. This type of incident is a Heritage Crime and will not be tolerated.”
Anyone with any information in relation to the incident is asked to contact Cheshire Police via the website, or on 101, quoting IML-2285695.
