Coronation Street has provided an update on Dr Vincent Harper - but viewers may be disappointed.
The Doctor, played by John Hollingworth, first appeared earlier this year as the surgeon assigned to operate on David (Jack P Shepherd) and Shona Platt's (Julia Goulding) newborn baby, Harper.
Audiences will remember that David and Shona were involved in the disastrous car pile-up during the Corriedale episode in January, which resulted in Shona giving birth prematurely.
Due to baby Harper having a tumour on her neck, Dr. Vincent travelled from Bristol to Weatherfield to perform surgery. Prior to the operation, viewers followed newcomer Vincent's journey, which included a pit stop at Roy's Rolls.
Here, he engaged in conversation with Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) and David Platt, oblivious that the latter was Shona's husband. He also found himself in a dispute with David at the hospital over parking, before later discovering that David's daughter was the baby Vincent was set to operate on, reports the Daily Star.
Thankfully, the surgeon successfully completed the operation and ensured the safe arrival of David and Shona's baby, whom they chose to name Harper after him. Shortly afterwards, Vincent departed Weatherfield to return home to Bristol.
However, at the time, fans were certain he would play a significant role in a storyline, with many urging the showrunners to make his character permanent. One viewer commented: "The surgeon in today's #Corrie was so unusually prominent for a guest character. Is he staying?".
Another viewer chimed in: "I hope that Doctor Vincent stays, quite a good character and good actor." A third added: "Kinda loved Dr. Harper. Bring that sweet man back!".
However, in Wednesday's episode (March 4), the soap provided an update on Dr Vincent Harper - and fans may be disappointed as it doesn't seem like he'll be returning anytime soon.

During the episode, baby Harper had to undergo another operation. As they watched their infant daughter battle for her life, David informed Shona that Dr Vincent Harper had sent a message.
Reading his message, Shona said: "Super Doctor Harper, oh he's sent a message. That's really sweet." To which David responded: "Yeah and a bit sickening. Dead brainy surgeon and he's also really thoughtful and nice. I mean if I didn't like him so much, I'd hate him!".
