Deadline looms to apply for place at Cheshire East's newest school

It opens its doors to pupils in September

Progress on Cheshire East's newest school is gathering pace as it prepares to open its doors to pupils in September this year. As well as the visible development of Kingsbourne Academy in Nantwich, North West Academies Trust has also confirmed that it is now recruiting for the school’s first head.

Demand for places at the new school is already strong and parents are being reminded to apply in good time if they wish their child to start in Reception in September. Applications must be made via the Cheshire East Council admissions portal, with the deadline set for 15 January.

There have been some striking changes to the building that make the school feel more real than ever. All window frames are now in place and glazing has begun across the site, allowing light to flood into the spaces that will soon become classrooms, corridors and shared learning areas.

Roofing work is also progressing well, with around 60 per cent now complete and insulation being installed to ensure the building is warm and energy efficient. The canopy areas, which will provide sheltered, welcoming entrances for families each day, now have their decking finished, giving a clear sense of how the school will feel on arrival.

Inside the building, the first stages of internal walls are starting to appear, with timber base frames being fitted to form recognisable rooms and learning spaces. Outside, the school’s pitches are draining well and new grass continues to establish, offering a glimpse of the outdoor spaces pupils will enjoy in the future.

At the same time as construction advances, North West Academies Trust has opened applications for the Head of School at Kingsbourne Academy. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the culture, curriculum and community of the new school from its earliest days. Applications for the role are open until 21 January, with an appointment expected later in the spring.

Steve Docking OBE, Chief Executive Officer of North West Academies Trust, said: “Kingsbourne Academy is an incredibly exciting project for our Trust and for the wider Nantwich community. Seeing the building take shape alongside the recruitment of our first Head of School really brings the vision to life. This role is a unique opportunity for an ambitious leader to help establish an exceptional school from the very beginning, supported by a strong and experienced Trust.”
