Firefighters rescue stranded pony 'stuck up to his neck' in muddy bog

A pony "stuck up to his neck" in a muddy bog in Cheshire had to be rescued by firefighters. The dramatic two-hour rescue operation took place in a field on Foden Lane, Alderley Edge, shortly after 9.35pm last night (May 21).


One fire engine from Wilmslow, one from Knutsford and an animal rescue team from Bollington attended the scene. A vet was called to sedate the pony.


A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "A specialist animal rescue team was called when a pony got stuck in a bog in its field. The 13-year-old, named Olaf, was stuck up to his neck in a muddy area and couldn't get out.

"A vet was called to sedate him while crews worked on a plan to release him safely from his muddy entrapment. The teams were in attendance for approximately two hours."
