Five fire engines, police and paramedics staged a late-night rescue mission after a person and two dogs were seen 'stranded in water'. Emergency services had descended on the site off Town Lane in Widnes.

And Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service say a rope rescue unit and boat were also sent in. The alarm had been raised just before 11.15pm on Wednesday night (November 5).

Five fire engines from Penketh, Widnes, Warrington, Powey Lane, and Knutsford were all at the scene. In addition the service sent Knutsford's rope rescue unit and the rescue boat from Warrington.

A spokesperson said: "Crews were called to reports of a person and two dogs stranded in water in Widnes. Swift-water trained firefighters quickly located and brought them to safety using a rescue raft. Paramedics and police were also in attendance."
