Flu-hit Cheshire school shuts for THIRD day
Congleton High School is remaining closed
A flu-hit school is shut for a third day. Congleton High School had initially been shut on Wednesday and Thursday this week for a 'deep-clean' after flu led to around 200 pupils being absent.
But that closure has now been extended to Friday 28 November. Now it is hoped that the Box Lane school will reopen on Monday 1 December.
The latest closure comes as the school wants to be notified of any positive Covid tests.
In a new letter to parents, headteacher Heidi Thurland said: "Over the last 72 hours I have engaged in multi-agency advice with UK Health Security Agency North West Protection Team, Cheshire East Council Health Protection Team and Infection Control Team when reviewing the next steps for reopening the school. Our priority throughout this has been the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff.
"I would like to acknowledge the support from the community in appreciating the steps we have needed to take. This support is really welcomed and continues to demonstrate how our school community works together in challenging situations.
"We are aware our infection rates remain high across the school community of students and staff. We have therefore made the decision to remain closed to all students on Friday 28 November. This serves a number of purposes: a circuit break for the infections in our community, allows students and staff who are unwell to recover, continues the process of further cleaning, and protects high-risk individuals while infections are at a high level."
