Fresh calls have been made to reinstate a Sunday rail service at a station. A dispute between Northern Trains and the RMT union means Congleton train station is only served by a rail replacement bus service on Sundays.
Other gripes include limited Saturday night train services stopping at Congleton on the Stoke Station to Manchester Piccadilly line and the ongoing closure of the ticket office due to a leaking roof. There are also calls for CrossCountry trains to stop at Congleton once again.
Now Congleton Town Council, a rail campaigner, and a representative of Congleton MP Sarah Russell have held fresh talks with Northern Trains.

Deputy mayor Suzy Firkin said: “We recognise that there is no single solution to resolve all of these issues. However, by maintaining an open channel of communication with Northern Trains and CrossCountry, we can ensure that Congleton residents have a voice and that we begin to understand how barriers to improved services can be removed, helping to influence the future rail strategy for our town.”
