Gyles Brandreth 'heard' Queen was 'battling cancer' before she died

The former City of Chester MP made the claim in his new biography on the late Queen Elizabeth II

Former City of Chester MP Gyles Brandreth has claimed that he heard the Queen was battling bone marrow cancer before her death in his new book about the late monarch.

Her majesty's death was pinned simply on old age but Gyles, a friend of the royal family, spoke further on the topic in his new biography, Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait.

The Mirror reported, in his book, Gyles said: "I had heard that the Queen had a form of myeloma — bone marrow cancer — which would explain her tiredness and weight loss and those ‘mobility issues’ we were often told about during the last year or so of her life, the Liverpool Echo reports.

"The most common symptom of myeloma is bone pain, especially in the pelvis and lower back, and multiple myeloma is a disease that often affects the elderly.

"Currently, there is no known cure, but treatment — including medicines to help regulate the immune system and drugs that help prevent the weakening of the bones — can reduce the severity of its symptoms and extend the patient’s survival by months or two to three years."

The book was a topic of discussion on Good Morning Britain with the panel agreeing Gyles was a credible source given his admiration and close relationship with the royal family.

Along with the manner in which he delivered the revelation in his book and his work as Prince Phillip's royal biographer, the GMB family said he should be "trusted."
