Inside Chester's Bear and Billet as pub business on market with £60k price tag
The historic boozer spans three floors and seats around 140 covers

It's one of Chester’s most historic boozers - and it's currently on the market with offers in the region of £60,000 being sought for the pub business. We reported last week that the Bear and Billet - which dates back to 1664 - had been put up for sale.
The Grade I listed black-and-white timber-framed building is one of the finest surviving examples of its kind. Standing proudly on Lower Bridge Street within the city walls, it’s not just a pub - it’s part of the city's fabric.
Inside, the Bear and Billet spans three floors and seats around 140 covers. The ground-floor bar, complete with timber floors and open fire, sets the tone for a traditional pub atmosphere, while upper floors provide additional trading space.
Currently run as a wet-led pub with weekly turnover of around £15,000, the property also houses a fully operational catering kitchen, giving new owners the opportunity to expand into food and reposition the pub as a dining destination. “This is an exceptional opportunity,” says James Boshier of Everard Cole, the agents handling the sale.
The Rightmove listing states: "Enter the building through the inner entrance porch direct into the ground floor bar area which features a front bar and open fire, polished timber floor and exposed ceiling beams and seating for approximately 60 persons on assorted chairs, stools and bench style seating.
"Upstairs to the first floor is a quieter seating area, again of character having an open fire, part solid wood floor and exposed ceiling beams and providing seating for approximately 40 persons. finally stairs to the second floor trading area set out for circa 40 persons and the commercial catering kitchen which is of good size and fitted with a range of commercial catering equipment."
