An 'internal review' is being carried out after the ashes of an XL Bully were delivered to the devastated owner in a tonic water cardboard box.

Nicole Pryde Jarvis is mourning the loss of three-year-old Cali after her pet was seized and put down by Cheshire Police. But the 30-year-old was furious when the ashes were delivered to her Congleton home inside Fever Tree elderflower tonic packaging.

Cali had been seized in October after complaints from neighbours. The XL Bully was not on the exempt list. Now Cheshire Police have passed the complaint to a 'third-party provider'.

A police spokesman said: "While we understand the destruction of any animal is a sensitive matter, a third-party provider is responsible for the destruction and cremation of any seized dogs, and they will liaise directly with the owner. However, we will give feedback on the concerns raised in this case to the third-party for their internal review."
