Plans for a new craft beer and wine bar in a Chester suburb have moved a step closer. We reported last summer that the proposed venue - named Wealstone - is earmarked for the Weston Grove shopping precinct in Upton.

Legat Owen has confirmed that the letting of a former gift shop to Tom and Emma Mitchell has now successfully been completed. The couple, who already run similar venues in the Boughton and Westminster Park areas of the city, are now awaiting planning consent from Cheshire West and Chester Council for the change of use of the premises.

Tom Creer, associate director at Legat Owen, said: "The owners have established a formula which works and creates a hub for the local community where neighbours can socialise and connect. The result is a successful outcome for the tenant, our client and the local community. We wish the owners continued success."

A premises licence application, submitted to the council by the couple last year, stated: "The intention is to open a family run, independent craft beer and wine bar named Wealstone. The focus of the business will be to provide a large selection of high quality beers sourced from a variety of independent and local breweries.

"The majority of trading will be seated customers inside, however we will also use the area at the front of the premises for outside seating. In addition to this we will offer a take away service for both coffees and alcoholic drinks (to be consumed at home). There is a main customer entrance from the pavement, and a fire exit to the rear."
