Motorists face 'long delays' after a crash on the M6 in Cheshire this morning.

The incident has occurred on the northbound carriageway between J18 (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) and J19 (Knutsford). Two lanes are currently closed.

The crash happened around 7am and there are currently delays of 40 minutes, according to National Highways.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix states: "Long delays and two lanes closed due to accident on M6 Northbound from J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) to J19 A556 (Knutsford)."

The traffic has now cleared

Lanes reopen - but congestion in the area

Inrix update: "Long delays due to earlier accident on M6 Northbound from J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) to J19 A556 (Knutsford).

"Congestion to J17 (Sandbach / Crewe). All lanes have been re-opened."

Cheshire Constabulary statement

At 7am on Tuesday 18 November, police were called to a collision on the M6 Northbound between junctions 18 and 19.

Officers attended and found there had been a collision between a grey Toyota and a silver Volkswagen.

There were no reports of any serious injuries, but there are long delays in the local area and motorists are urged to allow extra time for their journeys.
