A crash on the M6 in Cheshire has sparked 'severe delays' this afternoon. The collision has occurred on the northbound carriageway between J21A (Croft Interchange) and J22.

According to National Highways, there is currently six miles of congestion stretching back to Lymm. It states: "M6 northbound between J21A (M62 near Risley) and J22 Winwick. Lanes 1 + 2 (of 4 lanes) are closed due to a collision."

Police and firefighters are at the scene. National Highways adds:"Delays of 45 minutes on the approach, 6 miles of congestion of back to Lymm J20A."

Traffic monitoring system Inrix states: "Severe delays and one lane closed due to accident on M6 Northbound from J21A M62 J10 (Croft Interchange) to J22 A49 Winwick Link Road (Newton Le Willows)."

Traffic back to normal

Inrix comfirms traffic has returned to normal.

Cheshire Police statement

At 2.30pm on Tuesday 18 November, police were called to reports of a collision on M6 northbound between junction 21a and 22.

The collision involved two vehicles, a car and a HGV.

There are not believed to be reports of any serious injuries and the scene was clear by 3.50pm.
