Traffic along the M6 has come to a crawl this afternoon (November 1) following reports of two accidents in both directions. The incidents happened at around 1.40pm.

Drivers on both the M6 Northbound and the M6 Southbound are suffering delays, causing problems for those seeking to reach Sandbach, Crewe, Middlewich, Holmes Chapel and Stoke-on-Trent.

Traffic monitoring system Inrix has posed updates for drivers travelling in both directions.

In relation to the M6 Northbound, it reads: "Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M6 Northbound from J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) to J19 A556 (Knutsford)."

In relation to the M6 Southbound, it reads: "Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M6 Southbound from J18 A54 Middlewich Road (Middlewich / Holmes Chapel) to J17 A534 Old Mill Road."

Inrix has confirmed the all lanes on the M6 Northbound and Southbound are now clear. Traffic flow has returned to normal.

Third accident causes further delays

There has been a third accident on the M6 Southbound, causing further delays for drivers heading towards Middlewich and Holmes Chapel. The incident happened at around 2.10pm.
