Traffic has come to a halt on the M6 following a collision. And motorists are being warned of 'long delays' following the northbound smash in South Cheshire.

The collision has occurred between junctions 18 and 19. An alert issued by traffic monitoring system Inrix says three lanes have been shut and there are 'long delays'.

Meanwhile a live map from National Highways shows stationary traffic between Junction 18 towards 19.

Cheshire Police issue statement

Police say they were called just before 9.35am this morning to reports of a smash on the northnound carriageway. A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "Highways officers attended and found there had been a collision between three vehicles.

"There were no reports of any serious injuries, and the scene was cleared by 11.15am."

Recovery work underway

Inrix is reporting recovery work is underway and one out of the four lanes is shut.
