A busy A-road in South Cheshire has been closed this morning due to an overturned lorry. The incident has occurred on Nantwich Road through Tilstone Fearnall.
Traffic monitoring system Inrix issued an alert just before 5am to confirm the A51 had been shut off. It states: "A51 Nantwich Road in both directions closed due to overturned lorry from Brains Lane to Lodge Lane."
The road is a busy one taking motorists from Nantwich through to Tarporley.
Currently Google Map is showing traffic at a halt between its junctions with Rookery Farm Road and Brains Lane. We have contacted Cheshire Police for a statement.
Further updates will appear in our dedicated blog below.
Two fire engines sent
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service say the alarm was raised just before 2.10am this morning. The service sent two engines from Tarporley and Nantwich along with the Rapid Response Rescue Unit.
A spokesperson said: "Firefighters responded to a single-vehicle collision involving a heavy goods vehicle. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus gained access to the trailer to inspect the cargo and used an environmental grab pack to contain leaking diesel. Once the site was stabilised and the vehicle was made safe, the incident was handed over to the police."
Road to remain shut
Cheshire Police say the closure is likely to be in place until this afternoon. A spokesman for the force said: "Officers are currently responding to an incident on the A51 Nantwich Road, near to Rookery Farm Road.
"The road is currently closed in both directions at the junctions of Brains Lane, Lodge Lane and Bunbury Road.
"The closure is believed to be in place until, at least, this afternoon with motorists advised to find an alternative route where possible."
Road remains closed
The A51 remains shut. Meanwhile Google is also reporting a collision close to the roundabout by Airfield Road.
