M6 Cheshire shut and 999 crews scrambled as car bursts into flames after pile-up
Three fire engines, police and paramedics were called out
Three fire engines, paramedics and police were scrambled to a four-car M6 pile-up in Cheshire where one of the vehicles had burst into flames. And the smash on the northbound carriageway left a stretch of the motorway shut.
The collision occurred just before 11.25am on Saturday between junctions 18 and 19 with all four lanes having to be closed off while emergency services dealt with the incident. Firefighters, sent from Lymm, Holmes Chapel, and Middlewich, say one casualty was treated by paramedics from North West Ambulance Service.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service tackled the vehicle on fire using a 'hose reel jet'. A spokesman for Cheshire Police added: "Police were called to reports of a collision on the M6 northbound.
"Highways attended and found there had been a collision between four vehicles, one of which was on fire. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, there were no reports of any serious injuries and the scene was cleared by 1pm."
