House-proud Brits are being inspired to de-clutter their homes thanks to media sensation Marie Kondo according to new research.

The survey of 1,042 UK adults conducted by household appliances e-tailler, AppliancesDirect.co.uk revealed that a staggering one in three (38%) Brits felt inspired to tidy their home as a result of being influenced by Marie Kondo.

When respondents were quizzed on their knowledge of the tidying guru, more than two thirds (65%) say they know of Marie Kondo, and 58% have watched her Netflix series, Tidying up with Marie Kondo.

Almost half (44%) of those aware of Marie Kondo say they know what the now infamous KonMari tidying method entailed.

Further research shows that the nation spends a staggering 7.45 hours per week on average tidying their home.

Meanwhile more than 1 in 5 (21%) have taken to getting rid of certain items in their home as a result.

Marketing manager at appliancesdirect.co.uk Mark Kelly said: “It’s fascinating to see the impact and influence Marie Kondo is having on British adults with her tidying hacks and tips. This is perhaps unsurprising given that she has propelled to stardom over recent months thanks to her book, but most notably her recent Netflix documentary “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo”.

Interestingly, the research found that adult Generation Z (those aged 18-24) are the tidiest, spending 8 hours per week on this task.

Mark Kelly continued: “The research also paints a picture of how the younger generation are spending a large amount of time tidying their home, showing how much Marie Kondo’s hacks are influencing this age group in their tidying routine.

"Clearly, Brits want a home they can see as a haven to relax in, whilst also being a place that they can proudly show off to friends and visitors. It’s not long till the annual spring clean, so why not get started early?”
