The leisure centre is set for a major refurb

How Frodsham Leisure Centre could look

Residents are being invited to share their views on Cheshire West and Chester Council and Brio’s plans for the redevelopment of Frodsham Leisure Centre. The council has committed £6m to deliver a modern, fit-for-purpose new build and refurbishment.

The proposals will deliver improved and vibrant leisure, health and wellbeing facilities integrated with the existing sports hall and library benefitting the people of Frodsham and the surrounding areas. The facilities are designed to meet the needs of existing leisure and library customers, as well as the wider community.

This means modern changing facilities, a changing places toilet and accessible design throughout, improved fitness spaces, a community room and upgraded sports hall.

The revamp includes:

  • A 70-station gym - a brand new and much larger space, with modern equipment across multiple zones.
  • Air-conditioned studio - a new studio space for 35+ users, purpose-built for group fitness classes plus a dedicated spin studio.
  • Social and community space - a warm, welcoming area where people can sit, chat and connect with each other.

Also included in the plans are a small multi-purpose community room, improved integration with library services, and an upgraded sports hall floor. Councillor Adam Langan, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: "While the council and wider local government has faced significant financial challenges, our residents want to see capital investment to fund local improvements.

How Frodsham Leisure Centre could look

"We are now able to announce a significant increase in funding from the council for this project by committing £6 million to refurbishments. Frodsham is an important site for leisure, library, health and wellbeing services and the Council has been working closely with Brio and key stakeholders to consider options following the completion of community consultation and feasibility studies.

"Together with the appointment of the architectural team of Ellis Williams, the increased funding can help to turn our ambition to improve local facilities for health and wellbeing, into reality. It is exciting to see the emerging plans, and I encourage all local residents to take the survey and let us know what they think."

Matt Parker, Brio’s Managing Director, added: "These plans are without doubt a significant step forward, and we hope that the people of Frodsham and beyond will be excited. With the facility going from strength to strength in terms of the programme it offers, the number of sports clubs using the facility and ever-increasing levels of customer demand, we are committed to working with the Council to build on this to further support and improve the health and wellbeing of the local community."

Brio and the council are inviting residents to take part in a short survey and share their views on the proposed new build and refurbishment. Have your say by taking the survey here. For more information on the Frodsham Leisure Centre project visit here.
