It comes four years after the plans were lodged

Plans for a traveller site have been withdrawn almost four years after they were first submitted. An application had been lodged in 2022 to change the use of land in Halebank into a family traveller site with five pitches.

The site on Mersey View Road would also have included a day room, five shower rooms, sewage treatment plant, play area and landscaping. An application submitted at the time said: “The site is bounded by Mersey View Road to the North, safeguarded open land to the south, open land to the east and what appears to be a commercial site to the west.”

It said: “The applicant land is located within an area of the borough that is allocated for commercial purposes with access taken via an existing opening onto Mersey View Road.” It concluded: “Overall we consider that the site can be described as being located in a sustainable location in the borough give its proximity to local services (and) the highway network to public transportation routes.”

It added that the applicant, as of 2022, had owned the land for eight years and they occasionally sought to sell it for commercial or other uses. But added: “There has been no interest to date in the land and there seems little likelihood that this site would ever be brought forward for employment purposes. ”

It also included plans for a self-contained sewage system which could handle waste of up to 30 people without the need for access to mains drainage. A total of 26 objections were submitted.
