Police have issued a "think again" warning to anyone planning on attending an unauthorised car meet in Alderley Edge. Over recent days officers have been made aware of a meet scheduled for this weekend.

The meet has not been approved by the local authority or Cheshire Police as required when planning events of this nature. Previous events have attracted hundreds of people, many in high powered motor vehicles driving dangerously causing excessive noise and anti-social behaviour, all of which have caused alarm and distress to residents.

Chief Inspector Zoe Bowden, head of Macclesfield Local Policing Unit, said: "We are aware of reports circulating on social media regarding a potential car meet in Alderley Edge this weekend and I would urge anyone planning to attend to think again. The event has not been authorised by ourselves, or Cheshire East Council, and therefore it will be classed as an illegal car meet.

"Patrols will be stepped up across the area and robust action against anyone who is found to break the law. Our message is clear – anti-social behaviour and anti-social use of vehicles will not be tolerated."
