I love things that stop me in my tracks and surprise me just by being completely unique.

This is one of those times and one of those products. This quirky AI frame is bold, inventive, and offers up something really different to the crowded gadget marketplace.

A picture frame that is so much more than just a picture frame, it's an ever-changing AI-powered work of art, and one that you control.

Using AI and colour E-Ink technology, this device displays artwork or photos of your choice on the wall of your choice, and it looks brilliant.

The images in the frame mimic the matt look of a real piece of art and canvas rather than the glossy approach of a photo. It means zero glare and a really nice effect. The colours look brilliant.

It looks great on a wall with a thick black frame and a surround mount that gives the centre image real standout appeal. The frame's visual appeal may be impressive, but what it can do offers the real wow factor.

When you link this up to the phone app, you get a wealth of options that really showcase what this can do.

If you are familiar with the likes of ChatGPT, this works the same way, with the frame responding to your creativity and displaying your ideas.

I tested this function while babysitting my granddaughter, and she took great delight in making my wife and me into circus clowns and herself onto a throne in her very own Frozen-style ice kingdom.

Below is another one of her creations, 'Make Granddad look sad as he wrestles an octopus.'

Whatever you can think of, you can do in seconds. You can also add effects to your own pictures to give them different editing techniques and flourishes.

In short, it’s great fun, but even if you don’t want the daftness or invention, it’s a really nice picture frame that makes your photos and art the centrepiece of the room and a real talking point.

It is limited if you want to use it as a rotating gallery display, as it only holds 10 photos at a time.

The claim is that one charge can last for years if not updated constantly. I’ll let you know in 2028. Either way, charging is very fast via a USB-C lead.

I really liked this picture frame, especially the AI integration. What I would say, though, is that this doesn’t come cheap, and the price is at a premium with frames starting at £149.99.

That’s quite an eye-watering amount, and even more so when the AI element actually needs a monthly subscription.

Where to buy:

The SwitchBot AI Art Frame is available on the official SwitchBot website, starting at £149.99. Various frame sizes and bundle options are available at different price points.

Reviews:

Adam: "The frame itself is amazing, the image quality is great for the technology behind it, and the app is easy to use. What I was surprised to find was the £ 5-a-month subscription cost to use the AI tools! I've found nowhere in the specification on the site that highlights this, other than some tiny light grey text in one of the images on the page that says it's 'subscription-based'. Really disappointed in this, considering the price of the product itself! I think it would be better to give everyone 5 generations a month for free and then offer a subscription to have more. At least that way, you get to use the entire product."

Jeremy: "Anyone hoping to showcase photos of their family will be a bit disappointed. This is not a Frameo-type product, with a tablet-style bright screen. The e-ink gives a muted effect to any photo images. Matt, slightly recessive. It works well for art, but photos lack the punch and impact you might expect. But build to a good quality with a nice, easy interface. The supplied Art Gallery is limited to old classics - nothing younger than 100 years old!"

A1skaterboy: "Didn’t expect to love it this much! The AI Art Frame instantly became the highlight of my living room. It’s creative, fun, and makes classic art feel alive again. Perfect for the holidays and beyond!"
