Shoplifter targeted Cheshire Oaks, Asda and JD Sports in £4,000 crime spree

A man has been jailed after stealing more than £4,000 worth of goods during a two-week crime spree in Ellesmere Port. Barclay Redford pleaded guilty to eight shoplifting offences between December 23, 2025, and January 6, 2026.


During each incident, Redford entered several stores, took the items and made no attempts to pay. Now the 22-year-old, of Alnwick Drive, Ellesmere Port, has been locked up for 24 weeks at Chester Magistrates’ Court.


Below is a full list of the items stolen by Redford:


  • 23 December 2025: £1,050 worth of clothing and phone cases from Karl Lagerfeld at Cheshire Oaks.
  • 24 December 2025: £73.94 worth of grocery items from Asda in Wellington Road, Ellesmere Port.
  • 30 December 2025: £800 worth of sunglasses from Sunglasses Hut at Cheshire Oaks.
  • 31 December 2025: £1,130 worth of sunglasses from Sunglasses Hut at Cheshire Oaks.
  • 1 January 2026: £430 worth of clothing from JD Sports in Coliseum Way, Ellesmere Port.
  • 2 January 2026: £462 worth of perfumes from The Perfume Shop at Cheshire Oaks.
  • 3 January 2026: £110 worth of clothing from JD Sports in Coliseum Way, Ellesmere Port
  • 6 January 2026: £279 worth of perfumes from the Perfume Shop at Cheshire Oaks.

Police Constable Alex Johnson said: "Redford is a prolific offender and relentlessly targeted shops over a two-week period, stealing more than £4,000 worth of items. He has no regard for how his crimes affect local businesses and I am grateful that he has now been hauled back to prison for these offences.
