The six Chester takeaways and restaurants with the worst hygiene standards

Thankfully for customers, only one venue got zero stars

Bombay Palace on Upper Northgate St, Chester

When you grab a quick bite to eat, it’s natural to be conscious of the extra calories – but you don’t want to worry about the hygiene of the food. Unfortunately, not all eateries are made equal.

While some restaurants and takeaways take great pride and care in their food storage and preparations, others let standards fall to the wayside. Thankfully, the Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, operated by the Food Standards Agency, can help to shed some light on the safety of your grub.

Venues with a rating of 0 have the worst possible score. It means ‘urgent improvement is required’ to get the establishment up to standard. Fortunately, only one venue currently has a score of 0.

A score of 1 is a slight improvement. It means that ‘major improvement’ is needed.

Ratings reveal the standards found at the time of inspection. They’re based on a number of factors:

  • handling of food
  • how food is stored
  • how food is prepared
  • cleanliness of facilities
  • how food safety is managed

Below is the complete list of restaurants and takeaways across Chester.
