'Something different!': You react to new Chester seafood restaurant announcement
Excitement is already building ahead of the August 1 opening - although some warn of 'tricky location'
Earlier this week we reported that Chester’s newest restaurant, The Sandbar, will open its doors on August 1. Describing itself as the city's first dedicated seafood restaurant, the new venue is launching at the old Watergate Street site recently occupied by The Henry Potts.
The restaurant is the latest opening from the team behind the award-winning Sandbar Seafood Shack in Chester Market, and will offer seasonal dishes inspired by seafood cookery from around the world. Backed by industry legend, Jerry Brunning, and led by Sandbar Seafood Shack owner, Martin Taylor, the restaurant vows to bring a fresh and exciting new angle to Chester's thriving food scene.
The news has been greeted with excitement from readers commenting on our Facebook page, who have been wishing the new venue success despite some pointing to a 'tricky location'.
Owner Martin, however, is confident of success. He said: "Chester is a hub for outstanding independent dining, and we’re proud to be part of that vibrant scene. With access to exceptional locally-sourced produce and coastal delicacies, this is the perfect time and place to celebrate the diversity of seafood and bring even more success to the city’s robust food culture."
Here is a selection of your comments:
Susan Mealing: Sound great! Something different! Hopefully it will be well used by locals and visitors alike! It's a shame to see the building sitting empty, I will definitely be going, the one in the market is great and so are the pop up nights they've done at Paysan. Good luck guys
Katrina Kerr: A real favourite - tricky location so the marketing needs to dial up to 11. All the best and as they say money follows excellence
Debbie Woolnough: Very exciting!!
Col South: I wish them luck. Their food in the market is one of my favourites. However, this seems to be a cursed venue. Businesses seem to last just a few months, or years at most. Must be its location.
Alison Bradshaw: Fantastic!
Sharon Miller: Perfect
nevg: I may be able to get my other half in there for the fish and chips, I can then have everything else
