The beautiful Delamere Forest in the heart of Cheshire has been recognised as one of the best forests to explore in the UK. This accolade comes from new research conducted in celebration of Earth Day on April 22.

Delamere Forest in the Kelsall region earned its place on the list due to its top-notch facilities, which include picnic areas, cycle hire, toilets, an onsite café, and an information point. The list was compiled by outdoor experts at Millets and featured three other UK forests.

These included Kielder Forest on Northumberland's northern border, Haldon Forest Park near Exeter in Devon, and High Lodge Forest, part of Thetford forest in the east of England. Each forest offers breath-taking scenery and a range of trails for exploration.

Given its proximity, it would be remiss not to visit Delamere Forest. It is easily accessible, boasting its own train station, though parking is available for those who prefer to drive.

The forest offers a diverse landscape, featuring evergreens, open grasslands, and wetlands. Visitors can enjoy a Go Ape site with aerial courses, Segway riding, and Gruffalo trails for children, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Horse riders are also welcome, with a dedicated car park available for those with trailers.

For those feeling peckish after a day of exploration, the Delamere Forest Café is ready to serve. Offering both hot and cold meals from 9am to 4pm daily, and until 5pm on weekends, it's the perfect spot for a bite.

For those who prefer a picnic, there are numerous benches scattered throughout the forest.

Nestled within the woodland are cabins available for rent, allowing visitors to extend their stay and fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. Equipped with underfloor heating, log burners and optional hot tubs, these cosy retreats provide the ideal setting for a peaceful escape amongst the trees.
