A suspected stolen car was found abandoned in Warrington on Sunday night after leading police on a high-speed chase on the motorway.

The white BMW vehicle was recovered by officers from the Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit (RPU) after being abandoned by its driver.

The car was pursued by traffic officers at high speed on the M62. Police believe the vehicle may have been stolen.

The official Twitter account of Merseyside Police's RPU posted an image of the vehicle online at 11.18pm on Sunday.

Alongside the picture, the post read: "Vehicle abandoned in Warrington after high speed pursuit on the M62. Vehicle recovered suspected stolen."
