A teenager was 'seriously assaulted' in an early morning town centre attack. Police had been alerted by CCTV operations to an 'ongoing altercation' in the middle of Nantwich.

Officers sent to Beam Street, near the Home Bargains store, at around 3am on Saturday, say they found a 19-year-old man from Crewe who'd been 'serious assaulted'. He was initially taken to Leighton Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

As part of the investigation an 18-year-old man, of Edleston, was arrested on suspicion of assault. Today the force has confirmed the suspect has been released on conditional bail.
