Tributes paid after death of councillor who 'always had time for everyone'

"A true public servant who will be greatly missed"

Cllr Myles Hogg was ‘a man of utmost dedication’.

Tributes have been paid from across the political spectrum following the death of a veteran councillor and former mayor. Councillor Myles Hogg, ward member for Willaston & Thornton on Cheshire West and Chester Council, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 12, having served in local politics for nearly four decades.

He was first elected to Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council in 1987 and then onto the Cheshire West and Chester Council shadow authority in 2008. He had continued to represent Willaston and surrounding villages since then.

He held many roles including on the first executive, on the planning committee and on the Cheshire Pension Fund committee. He also served as Mayor of Ellesmere Port and Sheriff of Chester.

Cllr Adrian Waddelove, Conservative group leader on the council, said he was ‘a man of utmost dedication’. He added: “Myles always had time for everyone and was on hand to help anyone who needed it.

“His desire to keep representing his residents was underlined as he carried on right until the end – and proved to be a welcome focus – even as his own medical condition worsened.” Deputy group leader, Cllr Simon Eardley, added: “It has been my privilege to know Myles for nearly 30 years and to call him a dear friend as well as the wisest possible source of advice and knowledge on so many aspects of being a councillor.”

Labour group leader and head of Cheshire West and Chester Council Louise Gittins, said: “Myles was a passionate believer in democracy and worked hard for his residents over many years. Personally I always found him to be pragmatic in his politics and a lovely man to work with. A true public servant who will be greatly missed.”

In a mark of respect, civic flags will be flown at half-mast and flowers placed in remembrance of Cllr Hogg. The Conservative group said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
