Last month we reported that work on a new £5m Chester city centre hotel with a restaurant, spa and rooftop pool was resuming. The luxury 18-bed Wildes boutique hotel, set within a Grade II-listed building on Bridge Street, is due to open in spring next year.

Work had come to a halt last year while additional planning permission for the expanded hotel and restaurant - X by Harry Guy - was secured. The latest plans include two additional bedroom suites.

That makes for a total of 18, with all being totally unique and containing free-standing furnishings to allow the original building and its features to "breathe". Each will house quirky elements such as a free-standing bathtub with skylight for guests to enjoy the night sky in style.

One of the rooms will even feature its own four-seater cinema. In addition, the expansion allows extended roof space with views overlooking the city to create one of the region’s premium spa destinations, with the increase in size ensuring it will now be open to the public, not just hotel guests.

The space will feature a 32ft rooftop pool and terrace with views of the city, multiple treatment rooms and a feature amphitheatre sauna with views across Bridge Street. The hotel restaurant, X By Harry Guy, will be headed up by award-winning chef and Roux Scholar, Harry Guy.

The 50-cover restaurant will serve "flavour-first", British dishes, sourcing the best produce from across the UK to curate ingredient-focused food that embodies the tastes, textures and aromas of the natural world. Speaking previously about the venture, Harry said: "“I am essentially creating my perfect restaurant; from the dishes that I have had brewing in my mind for years to the look and feel of the space itself.

""For me, it’s all about the guest’s journey; as soon as they step into the restaurant, I want the outside world to fade away and for them to feel totally immersed in the experience. From the atmospheric interiors to the food itself and how we serve it, I want to create a place where people can feel totally comfortable but enjoy something outside the ordinary."
