999 crews in rescue operation at Cheshire river as 'woman seen in water'
A cordon went up
Five fire engines, police, and paramedics staged an early morning rescue after a woman was spotted in a Cheshire river. Emergency services descended on the River Weaver in Nantwich at around 4.05am this morning.
And a cordon went up while Waterlode was shut off in both directions as a rescue operation was underway. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service day a nine-metre ladder was used to help the 35-year-old - who was at the bottom of the embankment when crews arrived.
The fire service had sent engines from Nantwich, Chester, Congleton and Knutsford alongside the 'rope rescue unit' and an aerial ladder platform. A spokesperson for the service said: "Crews were called to rescue a person who had fallen into the River Weaver in Nantwich.
"The casualty was out of the water at the bottom of the embankment when crews arrived. Firefighters, including swift water rescue teams, used a nine-metre ladder, throwlines, a reach pole and life jackets to assist the casualty, who was in a difficult to access area due to trees and railings. The casualty was rescued and handed into the care of ambulance crews.
"A cordon was put in place and Waterlode was closed in both directions by police."
A spokesperson for the policing team in Nantwich said: "This morning we received reports of a female having fallen into the River Weaver off Waterlode.
"All three emergency services were on scene within minutes of the call and located the 35-year-old still in the water. Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service utilised rope tactics to rescue the female onto the river bank where she was treated by North West Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital as a precaution."
