Hickory's Smokehouse closes Chester restaurant for 'substantial' revamp
It reopens in six weeks
Restaurant group Hickory's Smokehouse has temporarily closed the doors to its popular Chester eatery so it can undergo a "substantial" refurbishment. Work to revamp the venue, which has been based on The Groves by the River Dee since 2010, will last six weeks.
The restaurant will reopen its doors on February 19. Back in November last year we reported that Hickory's had announced "exciting" plans for the restaurant. It said: "We are getting ready to make some changes and your Hickory’s will be undergoing a substantial refurbishment in the New Year!"
The venue temporarily closed its doors this week, with Hickory's stating on its Chester restaurant's Facebook page: "Hey folks, we’re now closed for our refurb. We’ll be back open & smokin’ on Wednesday 19th February. We’ve got exciting plans for your Hickory’s & we’ll keep you posted throughout the refurb.
"If you’re going to miss your BBQ favourites, the guys in Wrexham, West Kirby or any of our other Hickory’s would love to welcome you. Be the first to check us out when we’re back – book your table now hickorys.co.uk/book. And most of all a massive thank you for all your support over the past 15 years, we’ve loved welcoming so many of you and can’t wait to be back soon."
Back in 2022, pub chain Greene King took a stake in the restaurant group following the exit of previous investor Piper after eight years. Hickory's said the investment from Greene King supported its ambitious expansion plans to bring Hickory’s to many more guests across the UK.
The Chester-based chain has sites in the North West, West Midlands, East Midlands. Yorkshire, North Wales and the South West. In 2022, the group was also officially crowned as the 'Best Large Company' to work for in the UK.
